Samsung unveiled their latest rugged smartphone, Galaxy XCover 5 today and you won’t have to wait too long to get it. Irish customers will be able to pick XCover 5 up from 12th of March on Three, Vodafone and Eir.

Tough Cookie

XCover 5 is built to military standard certification (MIL-STD 810H). The device features enhanced shock absorption that enables it to withstand drops of up to 1.5 meters.

XCover 5’s IP68-rated dust and water resistance means it can be submerged in over a metre of water for 30 minutes with complete protection against dust. Those who work gloved can still use Galaxy XCover 5 with its Glove Touch feature.

Low Mid-Range and Focused on Function

Coming in at €379, Galaxy XCover 5 errs on the side of affordable when it comes to specs. The octa-core Exynos 850 and 4GB of RAM will certainly handle the everyday stuff. A 3,000mAh battery should cover a whole work day. Should you need to charge it, you can do so quickly via an 11W USB charging port or via the handy POGO pins astride the USB port – perfect for vehicle-mounted charging docks

Galaxy XCover 5 features a side-mounted hotkey can be used for any app or widget including using it as a PTT button for that aforementioned walkie-talkie feature.
