OPPO Find N2 Flip preview – The Easy Sell

OPPO’s grand foldable reveal at INNO Day 2022 saw two devices announced. TechStomper took a look at the book-style OPPO Find N2 and saw its dimensions and weight as a driver for mainstream interest. Find N2 Flip similarly has its lack of bulk on its side.

Pocket-Sized

OPPO Find N2 Flip comes in at 191grams, comparable to premium pro non-foldable devices. At 16mm thick, it’s just a shade thinner than its main flip competitor. Find N2 Flip doesn’t have a gap when closed, which, when combined with the modest depth of the device, makes it eminently pocketable.

The clamshell form is just that little bit more secure than a regular smartphone. Flip-phones of yore were hardy buggers, keeping the most breakable hardware tucked away from harm when not in use. Flip-phones today have clawed back some of that screensaving ruggedness.

An outer screen, the largest of any flip-style foldable to date, is covered in scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 5 lending a little more reassurance.

Problem Solver

The outer screen was one of the three main ‘pain points’ that OPPO specifically aimed to tackle in the three years of development leading to their first flip-style foldable device.

The 3.26-inch outer display is large enough to convey six notifications at a time and preview selfie photos at a useful size. The AMOLED panel has a resolution of 382 x 720 so it’s sharp enough to fit plenty of detail.

The 4,300mAh battery is comparable with non-foldables of its display size and OPPO aimed for an all-day battery life. A 44W wired charge will keep charge times respectable. OPPO also used a custom MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset to improve efficiency and stamina.

Find N2 Flip uses the same Flexion Hinge as its sibling Find N2 to deliver a gapless fold and a near-invisible crease. OPPO showed press the device at various angles and reduction in visibility over ‘last-gen’ devices is impressive.

Mass-Market Format

The flip-style device might be the foldable-style to reach the pockets and handbags of the masses first. A 21:9 smartphone display is natural to most users at this point and being able to toss that flip-phone in an aforementioned pocket or handbag with the abandon of flip-phones past is a very useful, and intuitive, boon to a potential buyer.

Once they are interested on that point alone, the smaller stuff might become apparent. Being able to flex the device gently to watch a video without a stand. Hands-free video calls and tripod-less hands-free video.

Find N2 Flip Pricing and Availability

OPPO Find N2 Flip is currently available in China and will see a release in other markets during Q1 2023. Pricing of OPPO Find N2 Flip in other markets has yet to be announced.
