OPPO Air Glass 2 preview – Finding a Purpose

While OPPO were keen to show off their latest flip phone, Fnd N2 Flip, at their Mobile World Congress show, they were equally eager to show off their world of accessories. Their show included OPPO Wi-Fi 6 Router AX5400, OPPO Zero-Power Tag, MariSilicon Y Bluetooth audio SoC and OPPO Air Glass 2.

The latter of which, Air Glass 2 is a next-gen AR headset built into a set of designer-style lenses.

Eye-Catching AR

OPPO Air Glass 2 is an incredibly light AR product, weighing around 38 grams. Aside from a slightly larger frame, the set are virtually indistinguishable from fashionable designer specs.

OPPO Air Glass also features thin and light diffractive waveguide technology which can reach a brightness of 1,400 nits for use in all scenarios. Additionally, the micro-LED display features pixels that are only 4 microns wide which offers the sharpness necessary for comfortable use.

OPPO have showed off several use cases that exploit Air Glass 2’s form and function.

Air Glass 2 allows users to perform real-time translations or text-to-speech for the hearing impared. The device can also use location-based navigation services and overlay directions for more intuitive guidance.

Built-in speakers offer music playback with playback details on screen. The device can also be used a teleprompter.

Long AR Use

OPPO Air Glass 2 is equipped with a Snapdragon 4100 wearable device platform. The company expects battery life to reach 10.5 hours.

OPPO Air Glass 2 does not have a release date yet nor do we know if they’ll be available outside of Asia. The previous device in the line-up, Air Glass, didn’t see a western release so it will be interesting to see if it sequel makes it out of Asia.
