Welcome to Chapter 2 of Detective Pikachu Returns, where we dive into the duo’s first real investigation in the game, “The Missing Jewel.” In this detailed walkthrough, we’ll guide detectives through every step to unveil the thief behind the stolen Aurora Gem.

After a relaxing evening with family, Tim and Pikachu go to the Hi-Hat Cafe, seeking Pikachu’s daily caffeine fix. Their peaceful visit is suddenly interrupted by Frank Holiday, who brings forth a challenging case.

This case involves a robbery at Dennis Mansion on the right side of town. The mission begins as detectives head to the crime scene and meet the Ryme City Police Lieutenant, Brad McCaster.

Upon receiving the Lieutenant’s approval to investigate the case, enter the large gates to explore the scene. Start by heading into the office on the right of the stairs. Question Sanjee Dennis for his testimony regarding the Aurora Gem’s theft.

The situation is intriguing: someone broke into Mr. Dennis’s Jewel Storage Room and stole the precious Aurora Gem.   1. Investigate The Jewel Storage Room

    The first step is thoroughly investigating the Jewel Storage Room. There are six critical clues:Tim and Pikachu gaining access to the Jewellery room in Detective Pikachu Returns

  2. The Four Jewel Cases

  4. The Jewel Case Lock

    Check the cotton ball on the room’s left side.

    Analyze the sliced open glass from the case on the left side of the room.

  7. The Blue Feather

    Investigate the Whimsicott Cotton on the right of the pedestal to find a blue feather. Continue examining until Tim or Pikachu indicates the duo has seen all there is to see, then exit the investigation and start deducing.

  8. Time to Deduce

    Open the journal with ‘X’ and select ‘Begin Deducing’ to complete the puzzle. Choose ‘The culprit cut open the case and stole the jewel.’

    It’s time to find the following residents to grab their testimonies:

  11. Claudia Dennis

    Speak to Claudia Dennis outside Mr. Dennis’s office to hear her story. She suspects Mr Barnes’ partner Pokemon, Ducklett.

  12. Larry Turner

    Find Larry Turner, a new employee, beside the stairs to get his testimony. He claims to have been punched in the face by a red Pokemon and saw Ducklett flying out the second-story window after the crime.

    Frank goes into more detail about the case and the lack of detail on Harry’s case.

  14. Clefable, Growlithe, and Manectrik

  15. Mr. Barnes

    Detectives can only interview Mr. Barnes after everyone else’s interviews. Mr. Barnes provides more information on Ducklett and mentions sending it to collect coffee beans from the Hi-Hat Cafe.Mr. Barnes, one of the four residents to interview.

    Now, it’s time to speak to the Pokemon and gather their testimonies:

    Found beside Mr Dennis in his office, Growlithe blames itself for the theft because it always held the key around its neck. However, Growlithe fell asleep after breakfast, allowing the culprit to steal the key.

  18. Clefable

    Claudia Dennis’s Pokemon, Clefable, can be found outside Mr. Dennis’s office. Clefable mentions getting very sleepy after breakfast and having a nap. After being awakened by Barnes’ return to the mansion, they both heard a loud noise upstairs. Clefable and Barnes ran up to the second floor to investigate.

  19. The Search for Ducklett

    Several testimonies hint that Ducklett (or a bluebird Pokemon) was spotted fleeing the crime scene. Barnes mentions sending Ducklett to the Hi-Hat Cafe, so it’s time to search for Ducklett.

    Before leaving the mansion, detectives encounter their first Local Concern, a side quest involving Lillipup. Help find Lillipup in the Back Alley, a small alley on the right of Fountain Plaza.Lillipup waiting to be rescued behind the plaza.

  20. Ducklett’s Whereabouts

    Head from the mansion to the Hi-Hat Cafe to meet Rachel Myers and her friend Jessica Miller. After making plans to meet Rachel later, approach the barista to ask about Ducklett.

    The barista confirms having seen Ducklett but mentions that she has just left. Open the journal with ‘X’ to deduce where Ducklett might be, and select ‘She went to the Hi-Hat Cafe.’

    Return to the mansion to check if Ducklett has returned home. Unfortunately, she’s not there. It’s time to shift focus to finding the mysterious Red Pokemon that punched Larry Turner.

  21. The Red Pokemon

     Exit the mansion and turn right to speak to some Whimsicott. These Whimsicott earlier played with a Red Pokemon at the Terrace in Serenity Park. Head straight to visit Serenity Park and go to the Terrace.

    The Terrace is located on the far right side of the park. Our duo then meet a scientist named Charles Merloch. He takes a sample of Pikachu’s fur for testing, allowing detectives to continue toward the Terrace.

    When reaching the Terrace, Pikachu, and Tim notice a view into the second-floor window of the mansion. Though the Red Pokemon isn’t visible yet, it’s time to investigate the surroundings and search for clues.

  22. The Terrace Clues

    Investigate three vital clues on the Terrace:

  23. Whimsicott Cotton

    Examine the Whimsicott Cotton on the left side of the Terrace.Whimsicot Cotton on the terrace.

  24. Torn Leaves

    Scrutinize some torn leaves with rough, uneven edges in the far left corner of the Terrace.

  25. Rock Covered in Slashes

    Investigate a rock covered in deep slashes on the right side of the Terrace.

    With these clues collected, it’s time to deduce where the Red Pokemon could hide. Open the journal and review hints. Select ‘Search near the rock.’

  26. Luring Out the Red Pokemon

    To lure the Red Pokemon out, interact with the rock. Speaking to the Whimsicott earlier, detectives learned that the Red Pokemon became agitated when they stepped on this particular rock. Select ‘Climb on the rock’ to initiate a Pawniard encounter.

  27. Interview Pawniard

    Speak to Pawniard to gather its side of the story. Pawniard does recall the Whimsicott flying it into a big house and slashing something on the way through.

    However, when asked about punching Larry in the face, Pawniard points out that it has swords for hands, which aren’t suited for punching.

  28. Meeting the Quiz Professor

    On the way down the path from the Terrace, detectives encounter a lady with a Toucannon. She introduces herself as the Quiz Professor and presents three questions related to Pokemon in the Park. The Quiz Professor pops up several times several times throughout Detective Pikachu Returns, with three questions each time.

    Answer her three questions correctly by exploring the park and looking for the specified Pokemon.

    – Lillipup is on the level above The Quiz Professor
    – Head left and down a level, then right to find Lickitung
    – Purrloin can be found by heading left and then up a level to the circular courtyard
    – Falinks can be found by heading up the staircase and slightly right

  29. The Search for Ducklett (Again)

    With Pawniard identified as the Red Pokemon, the only missing puzzle piece is Ducklett’s whereabouts. Please return to the mansion and speak to each Pokemon to ask about their unique skills.

  30. Clefable’s Skill

  31. Manetric’s Skill

    Manetric, the partner Pokemon of one of the Police Officers investigating the case, can be found beside the room on the left side of the mansion. It boasts a keen sense of smell but is currently busy working.All resident Pokémon have their own ability to help out.

  32. Growlithe’s Skill

    Beside Mr Dennis in his office, Growlithe also possesses a fantastic sense of smell.

    Pull out the journal to deduce which Pokemon would be best suited to help find Ducklett. Select ‘Let’s ask Growlithe to track Ducklett’s scent.’Growlithe offering it's help

  33. Tracking Ducklett’s Scent

    Head back over to Growlithe and ask for her help. Pikachu can ride willing Pokemon to use their abilities. To mount a Pokemon, press ‘A,’ and to use its ability, press ‘R.’

    With Ducklett’s scent and Growlithe’s keen sense of smell, leave the mansion and follow Ducklett’s scent into Serenity Park. Take the first left and go to the bushes behind the fountain—Press ‘ A’ to speak to Ducklett.

  34. Tracking Cramorant

    Return to the front of the mansion and start tracking Cramorant’s scent using the feather by pressing the ‘R’ button. Follow the smell to the Fountain Plaza and head right. Continue down the Back Alley to find Cramorant.

    The lost Lillipup from the first Local Concern is also in the Back Alley for those still looking for it. Interact with it to reunite it with its owner.Cramorant and Trubbish can be found in the same alleyway as Lilipup

  35. Interview Cramorant and Trubbish

    Speak to Cramorant and its friend, Trubbish, to get their story. Cramorant, much like the other Pokemon, fell asleep after breakfast before being woken up by Larry and sent to the Back Alley with a full belly.

    Trubbish wasn’t present at the crime scene but it found a suspicious note left by the mastermind behind the crime. The note reads:

    “Open the window after Barnes leaves. That will be the signal. Once the window opens, I’ll send Pawniard in with Whimsicott to cut the case. You should then be able to collect the jewel. If you play your part properly, you can frame Barnes for everything. And if you’re successful, we’ll both be coming into quite a lot of money. Good luck.”

  36. Deducing the Culprit

    Return to the mansion with new clues to inform Tim of the findings. Open the journal and deduce if there’s enough evidence to prove Barnes’s innocence. Select ‘With the note written by someone other than Barnes.’

  37. Finding the Real Thief

    The thief stole the key to the Jewel Storage Room, prompting Pikachu and Tim to discuss how that could have happened. When asked when Growlithe said the key disappeared, select ‘while she was sleeping.’

    When asked if the duo noticed any strange consistencies in the Pokemon’s testimonies, select ‘all of them ate breakfast.’

  38. Investigate the Sleep Powder

    Examine the food bowl beside Growlithe to discover sleep powder residue. Pull out the journal to review current clues. Deduce ‘sleep powder was mixed into their breakfast.’
    Turner is guilty.

  39. The Role of Lilligant

    Speak to Growlithe so she can get a scent from the Sleep Powder. Head to Serenity Park Terrace and speak to Lilligant, who is hiding in the far-left hedge. Gather its testimony, where it confirms that the sleep powder belongs to her. A human could have collected it while she was dancing in the park.

  40. Interview Mansion Residents (Again)

    Return to the mansion and speak to each resident to find out who prepared the Pokemon’s breakfast:

    – Barnes
    – Claudia
    – Sanjeev
    – Turner

    Pull out the journal to deduce who could have poisoned the Pokemon’s breakfast. Select ‘Larry Turner.’
    Turner is guilty.

  41. Finding the Aurora Gem

    Now detectives have identified the thief, the location of the Aurora Gem remains unknown. Head back to the Back Alley and speak to Cramorant, who had a suspiciously full belly.

    Upon hearing that Cramorant is still full, deduce that ‘it’s inside Cramorant’s belly.’ Detectives have successfully solved the case!Cramorant is at the back alley entrance.

  42. Closing Questioning

    Confront Larry Turner with the evidence. During this confrontation, detectives will be asked a series of questions:

    1. How did the culprit get the key?
       – They made Growlithe fall asleep, then stole the key.

    2. Which Pokemon cut open the jewel case?
     – Pawniard.

    3. What evidence proves that Barnes is not the culprit?
       – The note that the accomplice wrote.

    4. Who is the culprit?
       – Larry Turner.

    5. Which Pokemon has the jewel?
       – Cramorant.

    Pikachu strokes Cramorant’s back, making it cough up the gem and the key. However, as Turner is being led to the Police Station, Cramorant is berserk, snatching the Aurora Gem and flying off again.

  43. Case Closed

    After successfully solving the case, Pikachu, Tim, and Rachel return home for dinner. The pair embarks on a late-night stroll following a peculiar dream involving Tim’s dad, Harry.

    During their journey, they encounter Mewtwo, who shares information about wild Beedrill with infinite strength and glowing cubes on their backs; however, before Mewtwo can finish, the Beedrill returns, chasing it away.Mewtwo issuing a warning
