That’s right! available to preorder now at the time of writing, fans can expect the following for a handsome price of €44.99:

  • Ys Origin Game
  • CE Box by Clear River Games
  • Origin 2CD Soundtrack
  • Acrylic Stand Diorama
  • Ys Enamel Pin
  • Sticker Sheet
  • Bonus Acrylic Card

Ys Origin Collector’s Edition: Y(s) should you buy it?

Ys Origin Collector’s Edition is limited to 3000 copies worldwide, sizing up at 20,1cm x 14,5cm x 5,1cm (7,9 x 5,7 x 2,0 inches). Serving as a kingly upgrade from the standard edition (limited to 1500 copies), the box alone would look good on any collectors shelf:

Ys Origin does still feature JRPG gameplay staples, such as HP, MP, inventory, abilities etc; but it’s all perfectly streamlined alongside what is in essence a very simple, hack’n’slash dungeon crawler. The addition of a simple role-playing system only fleshes the game out, whilst still containing engaging and expertly crafted monster-filled labyrinths.

Fans will be greeted with a striking gold foil logo cast on a black slide box. This box style is perfect for opening yet preserving the condition of collectables. So irritating tags or stubborn stickers here.

So, What’s in the box?

Sliding off the decorative lid reveals the spoils of this lucrative collector’s edition, starting with a copy of the game (In this case, Nintendo Switch).

“Combat can get fast and frantic, especially as you begin really feeling the “groove” of how things work and control; but luckily it never gets boring. With well over 90 different monster variations, each one meticulously crafted to give you a uniquely bad time every time you make progress, you will be constantly finding different tactics and ways to approach every single new encounter.”

Unlike some other collectors editions, players will be happy to know a physical cartridge is present instead of a DLC code for Ys Origin.

Packed full of artwork

For a small box, the Ys Origin Collectors edition packs a punch when considering its loot. Rather than opting for blank packaging with minimal effort, the double OST CD and Diorama box art is a job well done.

“Additionally, Ys Origin‘s music is fantastic and gives the game a real mood. There are some beautiful tracks that are reminiscent of other great JRPG soundtracks, as well as some excellent progressive metal tracks which fit the action-oriented style well.”

Let’s face it, some AAA collectors editions could take a cue from the Ys Origin collectors edition, it’s great to see a product that is made for hardcore fans of the series.

The crown jewel of this collection is the Acrylic stand diorama featuring the main cast of Ys Origin. Whilst it looks the part, it’s a bit of a tight squeeze fitting the background piece of acrylic onto the base. This was later put into place after endless anxiety attacks of snapping a peg off.
