Virgin Media O2 UK experienced its busiest ever day on record on its broadband network on Wednesday 15 February. The media giant cited football fans and gamers for the download rush. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 Season Two landed as Arsenal played Manchester City in a top of the table clash.

On 15 February, Virgin Media O2’s broadband network hit 24.77 Tbps at its peak between 8pm and 10pm. Eyes around the country were on Ashburton Grove as the Citizens won 3-1 to go top. The match was streamed on Prime Video. Meanwhile Chelsea’s defeat to Borrusia Dortmund in the Champions League was also streamed heavily across the UK.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 Season Two released at 5pm with gamers rushing to download the latest update. Some gamers took advantage of the pre-download feature as well, with many downloading the 22GB patch throughout the day.

Warzone 2.0 was also responsible for the second busiest day in the UK on Virgin Media O2 in November 2022. The release of a significant Warzone 2.0 update saw a massive 138 petabytes of gaming data downloaded on Virgin Media O2’s network over the 24-hour period. Downstream traffic peaked at 21 terabits per second (Tbps).
