It’s easy to overthink Dynamax Adventures. Playing solo or in a team of four via Nintendo Switch Online, players pick a randomly generated Pokémon which can be switched out for other mons caught during the adventure. Players must choose a series of paths leading up to a legendary Pokémon, with each direction featuring a random pocket monster of a specific typing. Some variables also exist to shake up gameplay.

After playing for a few hours, here’s some tips on making the most out of Dynamax Adventures:

1: Pick any starting Pokémon

Players, including myself, took a while to decide on a Pokémon to kick off a Dynamax Adventure. This really isn’t necessary. As previously mentioned, players can swap out any Pokémon that has been caught. This means players can swap strategies based on which types are in the team already. It always helps to know the typing of the legendary also.

2: Type Weakness/Effectiveness Charts

For those players who are just returning to Pokémon, the various type bonuses and weaknesses can be a little overwhelming. Sometimes, it’s easily forgotten information. Rankedboost.com have a great chart to keep handy on a smart device whenever it’s needed:

3: Look for NPCs and Items

Researches, Backpackers and items such as berries as randomly generated on pathways throughout a players Dynamax Adventure. Researchers will provide a Pokémon swap, which is more often than not super useful against the upcoming legendary. Backpackers provide held items such as a choice band or weakness policy and berries heal Pokémon. We’ve found Dynamax Adventures are less challenging taking advantage of these features,

4: Catch Everything

Players will want to make sure every opportunity is taken advantage of in Dynamax Adventures. It’s always better bringing a Pokémon at full health into a battle than a more effective one with low HP. Every team KO increases the strength of a Dynamaxed Pokémon, with three KO’s result in players losing the battle. It would be a shame getting to the last hurdle and tripping up, wouldn’t it?

5: Initially Try Offline, Then Go Online

Practice makes perfect, and it’s always wise to shout out a Dynamax Adventure first. Worst comes to worst, the entrance researcher remembers the last legendary players encountered to make sure no one misses out. Finding out the Legendaries identity and the type of Pokémon moves that would be most effective vs the best defensive typing makes Dynamax Adventures so much easier.

Of course, all of these tips will help players complete their legendaries list. However, defeating a legendary Pokémon is still quite a challenge. For example, Zygarde has made me go back to my Sertraline medication.

Pokémon Sword and Shield will be releasing with all DLC content included on-cart on 6th November, serving as a great entry point into the newest generation of Pokémon.
