Sky Glass TV gets a massive upgrade

Sky Glass, the all-in-one 4K HDR television unit with the entire Sky TV service built in, will receive several new features as part of a substantial update. An upgrade to picture quality, previously promised by Fraser Stirling, Sky’s Group Chief Product Officer, is part of the update. As well as several quality-of-life improvements and new ways to watch.

Image Update for Sky Glass TV units

Sky introduces a new ‘Vivid Mode’ in the ‘Options’ menu. This brings higher levels of contrast and saturation and is another of the upgrades touted to improve image quality, an ongoing process according to Stirling.

Sky Glass TV units use a 10-bit colour system facilitated by its use of Quantum Dot technology. Improvements to saturation and contrast can only help those billion colours pop.

What and How to Watch with Sky Glass

Sky Glass TV’s interface will also see some major improvements. Sky are introducing Personalised Lists so each member of the family can find their recommendations easily.

The Sky Glass homepage also sees a new ‘Because You Watched’ rail as well as new rails to ‘Continue Watching’ and show you ‘Most Recent’.

Your personalised homepage has now been reordered to suit customers better. Playlist is now your first rail so it’s even easier to let Sky help you find what you want to watch.

Handily enough, you can now see how much of an episode you have watched on Amazon Prime. A little blue bar now shows your progess from the Sky homepage so you don’t have click in to check anymore.

Soon, Sky Glass TV Ireland customers will have their own ‘Actors’ rail which will show them their favourite stars and any of their work that Sky thinks you might enjoy.

Additional Updates

Sky Glass has also introduced some general improvements to the experience. You can now hook up Bluetooth headphones to your Sky Glass TV set and enjoy your content without disturbing others.

The service now has a series of ‘One Shot Commands’ – for example, simply by saying “Play” and the name of the TV programme, it will automatically play the first episode or carry on where you left off.

You can now find a misplaced remote. Say “Hello Sky, where’s my remote?” and the remote control will begin to beep to help you locate it.

Lionsgate Plus Service Joins Glass

Lionsgate+ is now available on Sky Glass TV and Sky Q. Customers in Ireland can subscribe to the international streaming service for €4.99 a month. Lionsgate+ was previously known as STARZplay and offers a library of exclusive, premium content that includes political thriller ‘Gaslit’, the time travel saga ‘Outlander’ along with period dramas ‘Becoming Elizabeth and ‘The Serpent Queen.’

Sky Glass TV Ireland Pricing

Customers can buy the Sky Glass TV hardware by paying in full up front or by spreading the cost with interest-free monthly payments.

Sky Glass starts from €15 per month over four years for the 43” Sky Glass TV. For just €5 more, you can increase the size of your TV to a 55”, or you can choose the 65” Sky Glass TV for €26 per month over four years.

The interest-free payment options are also available over a two-year period or can be paid upfront at €755 (43″), €999 (55″) and €1,299 (65″).

The service then starts with Sky Ultimate TV at €27 per month for 12 months, €38 thereafter. I should point out that the Sky Ultra HDR with Dolby Atmos package costs €10 per month. You’ll probably need this to get the best from the TV hardware. Though you can still enjoy HDR and Atmos content from other sources without that subscription.
