Samsung unleashed a series of new devices at their Unpacked 2022 event this week. Among them were additions to the Galaxy Fold, Flip, Watch and Buds line-ups. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is one of the most interesting devices due to its aggressive pricing.

While foldables have been either priced far beyond their static counterparts or were sub-premium in terms of power, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is neither. The clamshell Flip4 is around the same price as premium ‘pro’ devices and features a leading chipset.

In addition, Samsung have been busily adding and refining unique functions that are irreplicable on non-foldables. Pre-orders for Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 are now open, with the device available on 26th August with prices starting at €1,139/£999.

Tangible Foldable Advantages

The outer screen features a raft of customisation with user-created videos and images available to use as backgrounds.

Always-on elements for the outer AMOLED display can be similarly selected. Clocks, widgets, GIFs and animations allow for more user control over the screen.

Samsung say they have designed Z Flip4 to go “truly hands-free”, to allow users to do more without ever opening the phone.

Z Flip4 features a strong Cover Screen functionality suite. Make calls, reply to texts, unlock the car and even control the SmartThings Scene widget, all from the Cover Screen.

Flip Camera

Being able to use the main camera as a selfie cam is an obvious benefit to the format. But Samsung have updated and improved the selfie experience. For one, users can shoot hands-free video or capture full group selfies at various angles by partially folding Z Flip4 to activate FlexCam.

Z Flip4 also allows users to take selfies right from the Cover Screen by leveraging the main camera with an upgraded Quick Shot applet.

Users are now able to take selfies in Portrait Mode and see previews in the actual photo aspect ratios when using Quick Shot.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 lets users begin video recording in Quick Shot mode and then seamlessly switch to Flex mode. Continuing the recording hands-free without stopping the video. A feature that will go over well with content creators and vloggers.

Z Flip4 Charging

Galaxy Z Flip4 can run for longer than previous efforts with the expanded 3,700mAh battery. With Super Fast Charging now supported on Z Flip4, users can charge up to 50 percent in around 30 minutes.
