Samsung unveiled their new ‘Fan Edition’ or FE line during their ‘Galaxy Unpacked for Every Fan’ today. Galaxy S20FE is a sub-premium addition of the acclaimed Galaxy S20 Series, starting at €699/£599 for a 4G edition with 6GB RAM and 128GB on-board storage.
A 5G edition is also available from €799. Keeping the two apart is a good idea in my opinion – allowing for a cheaper model in regions where 5G isn’t available yet.
The Fan Edition is set to be Samsung’s Galaxy sub-premium going forward, positioning itself up market from other brands’ Flagship Lite offerings.
Flagship Pretensions
Samsung Galaxy S20FE has some flagship pretensions. The presentation claims to bring the most relevant features and concepts to Galaxy fans – the soft matte finish and provision of six colours being the first. The colours are mostly conspicuous and vibrant, aiming at a slightly younger demographic than the elder S20 Series.
The second is the screen. Completely flat with a punch-hole notch, the 6.5″ S-AMOLED display is inviting. This display offers smooth scrolling as Galaxy S20FE refreshes at 120Hz. Samsung displays are known for their market-leading quality so it was to be expected that Galaxy S20FE would be pretty to look at.
Camera Experience
Samsung claim ‘Pro Grade’ lenses make up their triple-camera setup. The 12MP ultra-wide camera will come in handy in the tiny apartments that people are living in. Space Zoom is here at 30x so living a few floors up won’t ruin your shot.
Night mode will help capture your candle-light dinners. The multi-shot AI mode snap either side of your shot so you won’t miss any fleeting moments. Video on the go should benefit from a ‘Super Steady Cam’ mode.
No-Compromise Gaming is Still a-Go
The promise of no-compromise mobile gaming has made it to Galaxy S20FE with Xbox Game Pass compatibility as standard.
Wireless power sharing is also here – charge your friend’s phone or your wireless earbuds by placing them on the rear. And finally, a 4,500mAh battery will help power it all.
