Samsung Galaxy AI Unpacked - Note Assistant, Generative Images and Real-Time Translation

Samsung Ireland has unveiled the new Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 at their Unpacked 2024 event. The event unveiled the three models in the Samsung Galaxy S24 series as well as introducing their own AI model. Samsung Galaxy AI comes as standard in the new S24 devices as the Korean telecoms giant throws their hat in the AI ring.

Like Google’s needle-moving AI incorporation, Samsung Galaxy AI aims to enable barrier-free communication with intelligent text and call translations. The AI helper is set to “maximise creative freedom” using Galaxy’s new ProVisual Engine. Samsung also say the AI model will set “a new standard for search that will change how Galaxy users discover the world around them.”

Samsung Galaxy AI

Galaxy AI introduces real-time translation, be it conversing with a student or colleague from abroad. Live Translate allows two-way, real-time voice and text translations of phone calls within the app. All conversations are translated on device for ultimate privacy.

Interpreter allows live conversations to be instantly translated on a split-screen view. This allows people standing opposite each other to read a text transcription of what the other person has said. Again, Interpreter AI runs on your device and can even perform without WiFi or mobile date.

Galaxy AI Assistant

Chat Assist can be used across a range of apps to help perfect conversational tones and produce professional notes. Be it a polite message to a coworker or a short and catchy phrase for a social media caption, the devices make sure your messages sound as intended.

Samsung Keyboard’s translation AI can also translate messages, emails and more in real-time in 13 languages. While driving, Android Auto will automatically summarise incoming messages and suggest relevant replies and actions. Like sending someone your ETA, so you can stay connected while staying focused on the road.

Note Assist arrives in Samsung Notes and features AI-generated summaries. You can even create a template that streamlines notes with pre-made formats. Voice Assist features multiple voices so you can have your perfect assistant to summarise your hard reading.

Samsung Galaxy S24 is also the first phone to debut intuitive, gesture-driven Circle to Search with Google. With a long press on the home button, you can circle, highlight, scribble on, or tap anything on Galaxy S24’s screen to see helpful, high-quality search results. Whether its a landmark in a photo or a factoid gleaned from a YouTube Short, Circle to Search can find out more for you.

ProVisual Engine

Galaxy S24 series features the new ProVisual Engine. ProVisual Engine is a comprehensive suite of AI-powered tools that create perfect shots first time no matter the zoom or lighting scenario. Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Quad Tele System also hosts a new 5x optical zoom lens, which works with the 50MP sensor to enable optical-quality performance. The Quad Tele System works at zoom levels from 2x, 3x, 5x to 10x magnification thanks to Adaptive Pixel Sensor.

Blur is reduced on Galaxy S24 Ultra with wider optical image stabiliser (OIS) angles and enhanced hand-shake compensation. When recording videos, both front and rear cameras are equipped with Dedicated ISP Block for noise reduction, and Galaxy S24 analyses gyro information to distinguish between the user’s movement and the subject’s. This allows for more effective noise removal and clear videos in the dark, even from far away.

Samsung Galaxy S24 AI Editing

Samsung Galaxy’s AI editing tools also receive a boost. For example, Edit Suggestion uses Galaxy AI to suggest the perfectly suitable tweaks for each photo. Generative Edit can fill in parts of an image background with generative AI. When a picture is crooked, AI will fill in the borders.

When an object needs to be slightly moved to be in the perfect position, AI lets users adjust the position of the subject and generates a perfectly blended background in its original spot. Anytime Galaxy S24 deploys generative AI to amplify an image, a watermark will appear on the image and in metadata. Instant Slow-mo can generate additional frames based on movements to smoothly slow down action-packed moments for a more detailed look.

Samsung Galaxy S24 is available from 31st January 2024 in Ireland from €919 SIM-free. Galaxy S24+ is also available SIM-free from 31st January in Ireland from €1,159. And Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is available SIM-free from 31st January in Ireland from €1,469.
