While Nintendo Switch is the 2022 leader in the United States in terms of dollar sales, PlayStation 5 has been of most interest to the public across the country. In 34 of the 50 states, PS5 has been the most popular in terms of raw search volume in the year 2022. Nintendo Switch was the most popular by this same metric in the remaining 16 states.
The study by CasinosCrypto.com analysed Google search trends data to determine which console is the most popular in each US state.

The study found that Playstation 5 has gathered an average of 3,350,000 searches each month in 2022 in the US. In spite of (or possibly because of) worldwide shortages of PS5, the console sits in a dominant position in terms of US consumer mindshare.
Disappointingly for Microsoft, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X were not the most searched console in any state in their home market. Not even their home state of Washington.
Nintendo Switch Surprisingly Strong
It may not be a surprise that PlayStation 5 sits on top spot. Shortages haven’t prevented it from gaining the lead on Xbox. While that gap was once 2:1, the latest reliable figures show Xbox Series S/X have caught up somewhat.

PS5 sales are believed to have passed 22 million with 16 million Xbi (plural) now in the wild. However, in the US the gap is much smaller with 8.1 million PS5 and 7.6 million Xbi sold since November 2020.
What is surprising is the distance by which Switch sits above Xbox. Nintendo Switch has been on the market for over five years and had sold around 25 million units by the same 19 month mark that PS5 and Xbox Series just passed.
