When we reviewed OPPO Reno10 5G a couple of months ago, we praised their choice of premium features, we loved the build quality, and we fawned over the premium-level display. And, more impressively, OPPO Reno 10 5G did all this while coming in at a lower price than 2022’s Reno8 5G.
However, the standout feature after months with OPPO Reno10 5G has been what the company called the Portrait Expert Engine. This Engine is marriage of hardware, software and AI to produce premium-level portraits, and it’s proved itself time and time again.

The other headline-grabbing feature is Battery Health Engine. OPPO Reno 10 5G is designed to stay capable, retaining 80% of its original capacity, for at least four years. And while our long-term review doesn’t quite cover 48 months, the peace of mind offered and the feedback the software has given around charging and battery health make the feature worthy of its billing.

Solid and Safe
OPPO Reno10 5G is more like OPPO Find X5 series than the Reno8 in terms of visual design. Reno 10 5G wears Find X5’s wraparound display well with the screen falling away at the vertical edges slightly. An outer aluminium frame curves to accommodate the flowing curves of the display and the polished metal detail offers a nice contrast with the frosted rear.
Reno 10 features a distinct camera island. The sharp and defined island breaks from the very OPPO look seen in OPPO Find X5 and Reno8 series of devices where the rear glass morphed and curved into a plateau housing their lenses.
In our review, we opined that the safer design had lost some of that unique aesthetic that lent a more luxurious look to the devices. We still loved the striking, elder OPPO visual design language but OPPO Reno 10 5G has a business-like simplicity that uses macro detail, like the contrast of polish and frost or the the curved overflow display, to offer some elegance, and to offer those touches of class.

The use of a polished aluminium frame and the quality of the AMOLED screen bely the affordable price point and only bolster that premium look.
OPPO Reno10 is also built to a premium standard. It’s reassuringly dense, but not heavy at 185 grams. The device is also svelte at just 8mm thick. The lithe frame and frosted, textured rear combine to make the device easy to hold and manipulate in the hand.
Premium Display and Din
The 6.7-inch AMOLED display of OPPO Reno10 could easily be mistaken for one used on devices twice its price. One billion colours across its 2412×1080 pixels in a 20:9 aspect ratio is competitive at the high end.
A maximum refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness of 950nits are both excellent. OPPO Reno10 5G’s display has that premium smoothness while scrolling, and it’s bright enough to use outside on the sunniest of days.

The overflow wraparound display does show some colour distortion as the viewing angle moves further off centre. It’s not major and many of you will be used to this seeing as the overflow curved display is common, especially on higher-end devices.
Another premium touch is that OPPO Reno10 is capable of 24-bit, 192kHz audio processing, and also rocks Bluetooth 5.3, the latest standard that offers higher quality but also reduces the power consumption.
Reno 10 Performance
Our review model is built around a Mediatek MT6877V Dimensity 7050 with 8GB of RAM. While this is a decidely mid-range setup on paper, in practice you get slick everyday performance. Larger apps come to life reliably and quickly, and switching between tasks is smooth.
For daily work and play the device has more than enough power to offer flawless performance.
OPPO Reno10 has a premium sprightliness while navigating and using its aptly named ColorOS 13. There are more powerful devices available for the price but Reno10 5G has more than enough grunt to compete.
The device also features what OPPO have dubbed the Dynamic Computing Engine, a system-level monitoring technology that promises to maintain the device’s stability and fluency for four years or so. Again, our long-term review falls short of pushing it to its limits, but the effect is noticeable over the months we’ve used the device. The device aggressively hunts for hunt for apps and processes running unused and terminates them, freeing up RAM and CPU time as it goes.
Reno 10 5G Camera Experience
Photos led by the 64 MP main cam are bright and well-toned and offer excellent contrast. The images are also vibrant and boast an abundance of detail. The AI’s choice of settings is reliable with the vast majority of shots being on the money first time.
OPPO Reno 10 5G sports a 32MP telephoto lens lens with 2x optical zoom. Zoom shots are well detailed but offers less depth and less color consistency than those shot from the main lens. The zoom shots are still mostly great but they are sometimes less striking and less aesthetically pleasing than shots from the 64MP wide sensor.

Oddly, there is no hard option to turn on or off the AI. The user has to just wrestle the setting away using the available options or go in to Pro mode.
The ultra-wide lens uses a 112° 8MP fixed-focus sensor that is good enough for fun photos of friends or squeezing in some graffiti. However, this third lens lacks the detail to take ultra-wide middle or distant scenery.
OPPO Reno10 offers suit of filters and effects, including depth of field adjustment, to give images a little extra pop. Human subjects are captured to a particularly high standard. We’d go so far as to say there’s a somewhat professional look to images of people captured on OPPO Reno 10 5G.
Self-Portrait Expert
The selfie performance is also part of the Reno10 5G marketing appeal and it doesn’t disappoint. For starters, the selfie-cam features the same suite of software effect are the rear-facing main lenses.
Bokeh, film effects, colour tints and contrast; they’re fun to mess with and can capture some real ‘aesthetic’ moments, as the cool kids say. The background effects, in particular, work very well. However, there seems to be a little beautification applied to faces even with the setting turned off.
The 32MP sensor captures a lot of detail and, by default, automatically finds a pleasing tone to its subjects. The autofocus and wide angle also allow for an broad array of selfie types.
Battery Health, Stamina and Charging
A 5,000mAh battery which gives OPPO Reno10 5G plenty of stamina. Coupled with ColorOS 13’s app management and various engines, Reno10 5G will last the workday with the vast majority of users. On our moderate smartphone use, we make it to bed in the evening with around 30% battery left in the tank.
At 67W, OPPO Reno10 will charge from 0-100% in around 47 minutes. It’s worth noting that Reno8 5G allowed for charging up to 80W but came with a 65W SuperVOOC charger, so it evens out in this respect.
A definite upgrade is that Reno10 5G uses the PD3 fast charging standard. This newly adopted charging spec allows up to a 67W maximum charging speed with any other makers’ PD3-enabled chargers capable of 67W or more.

Long-term use has proven the value of OPPO’s adoption of PD3. Being able to charge the device at the speeds it’s capable of without having to find that one specific charger is something we were grateful for several times per month.
Finally, OPPO Reno10 5G features the company’s proprietary Battery Health Engine. This premium system-level system carefully monitors the device’s battery to offer at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,600 cycles.
Long-Term with Reno10 5G
The average smartphone user captures dozens of images a month of family, friends, and acquaintances. A device that fits many budgets and elevates these common shots to a flagship standard is quite a proposition.
For those who are more active on social media, or budding influencers, OPPO Reno10 5G would be a fantastic investment. The feature suite aims for this generation and hits a bullseye.
The sustainability goals of the device are bolstered by the Battery Health and Dynamic Computing Engine. Sustainability and environmental concerns are taken very seriously by young people. The very people who value striking images of themselves, family and friends for social media. The very young people who don’t have over a grand for a phone.
