Nokia X30 5G preview – Speccing Up

Back in the arms race
Back in the arms race

The hardware highlight of Nokia’s recent IFA reveal was undoubtedly their mid-range X30 5G. While Nokia T20 tablet follow-up, T21 and aggressively priced G60 5G have their own merits, several parts of that X30 5G package make it worth that extra attention.

For one, TechStomper loved much about Nokia X20 but found it a little underpowered. Nokia X30 5G aims quite a bit further upmarket than that previous X-Series entry and attempts to play hardball on hardware.

The Finnish brand had previously ducked out of the arms race to focus on user experience through the bloat-free, high-security Android One. Nokia X30 5G augments this with a 90Hz AMOLED display, IP67 rating, and Gorilla Glass Victus screen.

With Nokia X30 5G, they’re starting at €499 but offering ample mid-range power and a higher-end display to go with their usual camera overachievement and security.

Optical Image Stabilisation

Nokia has included Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) for its main 50MP sensor. X30 5G uses this and its AI engine to create better wide-angle shots and low-light capture.

The glass over the lenses is a scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass which uses a DX+ formula to allow 98% of light to pass through to that massive sensor.

Greener Smartphone

Nokia X30 5G is built with a 100% recycled aluminium frame and a 65% recycled plastic back. A 94% recycled paper box in a reduced packaging size saves on transport-related CO2 emissions.

This reduced packagin size has been facilitated by the company’s omission of the charger plug from their devices which also reduces plastic and electronics waste.

And As Always

Nokia X50 3G comes with three years of Android security updates from the phone’s release date. The handset will also get Google quality-of-life updates for three years after release. There is also an extended three-year warranty with more on that here.
