While TCL may be known around the world as a major player in the TV market, they’ve now entered the phone arena amongst others, with the TCL 10 Pro.
Utilising lessons learned and screen technology from the TV industry, TCL 10 Pro has put its past to good use.
Whenever I see the word ‘Pro’ included, I think pricey. But thankfully, that’s not the case here as the TCL 10 Pro fits comfortably in the mid-range market.
The Basics
A lot of work has gone into the design to give it a premium feel that can match last years flagships such as the S10 and P30.
On the front, you have a beautiful 6.47 inch curved AMOLED screen with an FHD+ resolution, so text and images appear nice and sharp.
As with all AMOLED screens, blacks are as deep as ink, with the added bonus of HDR10, which is supported as standard on the device.
An in-screen fingerprint sensor is included but I think it needs some optimisation with future updates as it misreads too much.
I’m sure some people would struggle to easily use a phone with a 6.47-inch screen, but thankfully the TCL 10 Pro comes with a one-handed mode.
If you’re a butterfingers with phones then you’re going to want to slap on the provided cover straight away because the TCL 10 Pro is a slippy boi.
The model we received is the Ember Grey model which fades from a dark grey at the top to almost silver/platinum at the bottom. You really won’t be disappointed with the look and feel of this phone.
Unique rear-camera design
I’m a massive fan of the camera design on the rear of the phone. Instead of having a rather large block such as the new Samsung and Huawei phones, it’s gone for a fresh look.
There are four camera lenses – including the main 64MP – on the rear without any bulge on the phone. In fact, the two flash sensors on either side are ever so slightly raised which gives added protection to the lenses when putting it on a counter.
A very smart design choice.
There is a notch on the screen for the camera but to be honest, it doesn’t really interfere with your screen experience.
What’s Inside?
Inside there’s a Snapdragon 675 processor, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of Storage. Power-users will be happy, the 4500 mAh battery is greatly appreciated with it easily lasting over a day.
The TCL 10 Pro comes with Android 10 as well as their own TCL UI on top of that. There is some bloatware when you launch the phone but a lot can be removed.
The TCL 10 Pro will cost €449 in Ireland.
