Few companies know how to get the whole family up and moving quite like Nintendo. From the days of Wii Sports to the new Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, there has always been something special about getting together with friends and family for a bit of virtual competition.
Nintendo is back with another collection of sporting fun that aims to get you off the couch and swinging your Joy-Cons around like a maniac.

But the big question is: can it recapture the pure joy and magic of the Wii Sports days, or is it simply another collection of tarted-up mini-games?
Whole in One
Well, the good news is that there is plenty in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort to keep you entertained, whether you’re looking for a quick game or something to enjoy when the whole family is around.
The core of the experience is, once again, its collection of sports, with everything from bowling and tennis to more unusual pursuits like swordplay and cycling.

Bowling remains king of the collection, offering that addictive and familiar feeling of lining up your shot and hoping you don’t end up in the gutter. It’s simple, yes, but it’s accessible and just as much fun as it was back in the Wii Sports days.

Tennis is another highlight, delivering some great moments when you get into a proper rally. The motion controls do a decent job of tracking your movements, although you’ll still find yourself swinging at the wrong time every now and again.
Teasing Out the Content
There are 12 sports to get stuck into right out of the box, including some returning favourites as well as new additions such as golf, volleyball, table tennis, basketball and boxing.

But it’s with the more random additions that things get interesting. Thumb Wrestling offers a fun way to challenge friends, while Skateboarding gives you something a little different to tackle.

It’s a good mix, and Nintendo has done a decent job of making sure there is something for everyone, regardless of whether you’re looking to break a sweat or are just game for a laugh.

Of course, the real magic comes when you get a few mates or family members together. There are few things better than a bit of friendly competition, and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort delivers plenty of those moments where everyone ends up shouting at the television or simply laughing at each other.
Broad, Not Deep
That said, the experience does feel a little light on content at times. While the sports on offer are fun, there isn’t always enough depth to keep you coming back once you’ve played through everything a few times, especially if you are playing on your own. There is also the ability to play online, so there is really no reason to go it alone.

The motion controls can be a little hit and miss as well, especially when things get hectic. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it can be frustrating when a game doesn’t quite register the movement you’re trying to pull off.
Still, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is a fun and accessible collection of sports that delivers exactly what you’d expect from Nintendo.

It may not have the same novelty factor as the original Wii Sports, but it’s a great way to get everyone together for a bit of friendly competition. If you’re looking for a game to enjoy with friends and family, this is well worth picking up.
