Xiaomi 17 Series Launched with 100W Charging and Lightest Ultra to Date

Xiaomi has lifted the curtain on its Xiaomi 17 Series, a pair of flagship smartphones designed to push the company’s imaging ambitions further while refining its industrial design. Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra boast a new minimalist look, and a refined fabrication process for even higher build quality. The headline features include upgrades to their Leica-lensed imaging systems, up to 100W wired charging and up to 50W wirelessly, and 16% silicon battery capacities up to 6,330mAh.

Durability Progress

The Xiaomi 17 Series leans into a minimalist aesthetic that favours clean lines, softened edges, and a more confident, understated profile. Xiaomi has spent several generations refining its Golden Arc curvature, and the new models show the benefit of that work. Both devices feel slimmer in the hand, with flatter surfaces and bezels reduced to near‑borderless levels thanks to updated LIPO manufacturing techniques.

Black smartphone from China premium

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is the thinnest and lightest Ultra‑branded handset the company has produced, measuring 8.29mm and starting at 218.4g. Its camera housing has been redesigned to be smaller and less visually dominant, while the all‑flat body gives it a more purposeful look. It launches in Black, a finish Xiaomi describes as deliberately premium and professional.

Durability has been a major focus. The company’s Guardian Structure returns with several upgrades: Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0, which offers 30% greater drop resistance than the Xiaomi 15 Ultra; a high‑strength fibreglass back; an aluminium alloy frame; and IP68 certification for dust and water protection. The result is a device that aims to balance elegance with everyday resilience.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra

The standard Xiaomi 17 follows the same design philosophy but in a more compact form. At 8.06mm thick and 191g, it is noticeably lighter while still carrying flagship‑class internals. It comes in Venture Green and Black, and features a redesigned camera deco, reduced curvature along the frame, and ultra‑slim 1.18mm bezels. Its Guardian Structure uses a 6M42 aluminium frame and Xiaomi Shield Glass, again with IP68 protection.

Leica Partnership Continues

Xiaomi is positioning these devices as tools for serious photography, supported by software features such as the AI Creativity Assistant and Xiaomi HyperConnect, which enables multicam setups and streamlined file sharing.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra rear camera

Xiaomi 17 Ultra introduces the company’s first 1‑inch LOFIC main camera sensor, the Light Fusion 1050L. This sensor uses capacitor‑based technology to increase full‑well capacity and deliver next‑generation HDR performance. Alongside it sits a Leica 200MP 75–100mm telephoto camera with a mechanical optical zoom mechanism. Built to Leica APO standards, it maintains image quality across the zoom range and can reach a 400mm equivalent focal length through advanced sensor cropping.

Xiaomi 17 takes a different approach, built around the Light Fusion 950 sensor, a 1/1.31‑inch unit with 2.4μm 4‑in‑1 Super Pixel technology. It delivers a 13.5EV dynamic range and is paired with a Leica 60mm floating telephoto lens capable of 5x optical‑level zoom, 10cm macro shooting, and 20x AI Ultra Zoom. A new 50MP front camera improves autofocus performance at varying distances. Video support includes 4K 60fps Dolby Vision and 4K 60fps Log recording.

For those who want a more tactile shooting experience, Xiaomi has created the 17 Ultra Photography Kit Pro. It includes a PU leather grip inspired by classic Leica bodies, a detachable shutter button, a 2,000mAh battery, and a Fastshot mode interface designed for quick, controlled shooting.

Performance and Efficiency

Both devices run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform. This combines a 3rd‑generation Oryon CPU, next‑generation Adreno GPU, and Hexagon NPU. Xiaomi is pitching this as a platform capable of handling rapid‑fire photography, high‑resolution video calls, heavy multitasking, and demanding gaming workloads without compromise.

Charging sees a notable upgrade. The series supports up to 100W HyperCharge and 100W PD‑PPS charging, broadening compatibility with third‑party chargers. Battery technology has also been overhauled. This overhaul includes Xiaomi Surge Battery, which uses a 16% silicon content to improve energy density and longevity.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra carries a 6000mAh battery with 90W wired and 50W wireless charging. The Xiaomi 17 goes even larger at 6330mAh, supporting 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. Despite these capacities, both devices maintain slim profiles.

Clear Display

Xiaomi has equipped the 17 Series with custom OLED panels capable of reaching 3,500 nits peak brightness. The LTPO technology allows refresh rates between 1Hz and 120Hz, while DC dimming aims to reduce eye strain.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra

The new Xiaomi‑custom M10 panel improves brightness and power efficiency. The 17 Ultra also debuts HyperRGB, a redesigned OLED subpixel layout intended to enhance clarity and reduce power consumption.
