HyperX Alloy Rise 75 Wireless Gaming Keyboard review – Premium All-Rounder

HyperX Alloy Rise 75 Wireless gaming keyboard asks a premium price, but it offers quite a lot in return. Standout build quality, tri-mode connectivity, up to nine weeks of stamina (with the LEDs off), and a huge range of customisation options; all of this packed into a compact 75% layout.

And thanks to some admirable cleverness inherent in its UI and layout, HyperX Alloy Rise 75 Wireless gaming keyboard doesn’t feel like a cut-down compromise.

Work and Playhorse

The keyboard’s 75% layout retains essential keys like arrows and function row while saving desk space. HyperX Alloy Rise 75 Wireless features a soft, dampened keystroke and reduced acoustic resonance.

Despite its gaming dayjob, the device offers a surprisingly premium typing feel. And, at just 320mm by 135mm by 40mm, it lives up to its compact billing.

Custom Keys

HyperX Red linear switches come pre-installed and are hot-swappable, supporting both 3-pin and 5-pin mechanical switches. These switches actuate at 1.8 mm with a total travel of 3.8 mm and require 45 g of force, offering smooth, consistent keypresses ideal for gaming and typing.

Connectivity is one of HyperX Alloy Rise 75’s many strengths. 2.4GHz wireless (via USB dongle), Bluetooth 5.0, and USB-C wired open up the gaming keyboard up to a huge array of devices. Bluetooth allows pairing with up to three devices simultaneously. You can quickly jog between the three devices by hitting ‘Fn+F13’.

The 2.4GHz mode delivers low-latency performance and instant wireless access. The dongle is tiny and is kept in a recess hear the USB-C input and the tri-mode switch.

Long Runner

Battery life is rated up to 1500 hours with RGB off and around 80 hours with RGB lighting enabled. One clever trick that impressed me was the battery check function. Hit ‘Fn’ + /?’, and the 1-10 keys light up to show you how much juice you have left. The lower numbers even have yellow and red light to indicate its time to consider the charger.

RGB lighting is vibrant and customisable through HyperX Ngenuity software, though the software remains basic compared to competitors.

Some of the Fn shortcuts and on-board settings make life easier or enhance the user experience. I also love how all of the keys with Fn+ functions are near the Fn key so you can conveniently use these functions with one hand.

The jog wheel, which is set to be a volume and mute control by default, has a nice tactile notched effect. This is a neat addition, and it’s handled with the same premium touch as the rest of the device.
