Foldable technology has come a long way in its seven years on the market. Devices are now driving their way to parity in terms of width and weight, creases are becoming harder to spot, and utility continues to be added to the hardware’s inherent benefits. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 shows all seven years of swift improvement in many areas. It’s slimmer, offers a more immersive and informative visual experience within and without, and comes with little compromise for its form.

The improvements overs its predecessor are incremental but many. No single facet of the upgrade is a big deal on its own, but taken as a whole, Z Flip7 is the biggest step for foldable devices in years.
Folding Evolution
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 is a subtle evolution in Samsung’s foldable design language. The larger, thinner device looks inherently more elegant that the slightly chunkier Z Flip5 and Z Flip6, so sweeping changes to the Flip series lines weren’t necessary.
Our Blue Shadow edition looks particularly sharp with a navy hue that is understated and cool. The Blue Shadow finish also catches light in a way that highlights the phone’s slim profile and clean lines.

The colour is complemented by a satin-finished Armour Aluminium frame, which stands in refined contrast to the frosted Gorilla Glass Victus 2 back panel. This dual-texture approach gives the phone a premium feel without being overly flashy.
Slimming Down
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 measures 166.7 mm in height and 75.2 mm in width, making it slightly taller and wider than the Z Flip6, which comes in at 165.1 mm by 71.9 mm.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 is just 6.5 mm thick when open and 13.7 mm when folded, shaving precious space over the Z Flip6 which measures 6.9 mm and 14.9 mm respectively. In use, Galaxy Z Flip7 is noticeably slimmer and more pocket-friendly, especially when folded.
Inner Winner
The changes to dimension also come with a better inner display viewing experience. The upgraded 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X 21:9 main display is just that little bit bigger than Z Flip6’s 6.7-inch screen.
The inner display also sports a slightly wider 21:9 aspect ratio compared to the Z Flip6’s 22:9 layout. This all adds up to a device that feels just like regular smartphone when unfolded for a no-compromise implementation. The larger display and change of aspect ratio also improves usability, particularly for split-screen multitasking and media consumption, where the broader canvas feels more immersive and less cramped.

Samsung Z Flip7’s Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+, delivering vibrant colours and smooth scrolling. Peak brightness output reaches around 2,500 nits under adaptive settings, ensuring good visibility even in bright outdoor conditions.
The crease in the inner display, a longstanding concern for foldable phones, remains faintly visible but is harder to spot. However, the crease has been slightly reduced in depth. While the Z Flip6 made strides in minimising the crease, the Flip7 goes a step further, making it less noticeable during everyday use. And, this is especially true when viewing content with darker backgrounds.
Cover Display Growth
Samsung Galaxy Flip7 benefits quite a lot from the larger 4.1-inch FlexWindow cover screen. The greater surface area allows for more interaction without unfolding the device. Without factoring in improvements to cover screen apps to take advantage of the greater real estate, this alone is significant upgrade over the Z Flip6’s 3.4-inch panel.
The bezels are impressively thin, just 1.25 mm, making the front display stand out on the device. This also allows for more information to be displayed and for easier typing of responses.
Build Enhancement
The frame of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 is made of Armour Aluminium, known for its strength-to-weight ratio, and the back panels are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The phone is IP48 rated, meaning it can withstand submersion in water up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes and is resistant to solid particles, but no larger than 1 mm.
Samsung has redesigned the Armour FlexHinge to be nearly 30% smaller. This results in a slimmer profile when folded and a smoother, more consistent folding motion. This allows Z Flip7 to be that bit slimmer. The new hinge also contributes to improved durability, with the hinge rated for over 200,000 folds. Compared to the Z Flip6, which already offered a solid folding experience, the Flip7 feels more polished.

However, unfolding the device can be slightly fiddly due to the tighter gap between the two halves and the thinner frame.
The side-mounted fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button remains mostly unchanged. However, it’s slightly slimmer and now just requires a little brush of the finger. It’s a minor tweak that you will get used to.
AI-Powered
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip7 builds on the foundation of previous AI-powered Galaxy models. The device’s AI-powered features are certainly more pervasive and more refined in their application. This will, naturally, encourage more users to explore these features.
Gemini Live offers a novel way to interact with the assistant via the cover screen. The cover screen applet is convenient and slick. Similarly, the enhanced FlexWindow introduces some new widgets for quick access and notifications, although support for third-party apps remains selective and somewhat inconsistent.

However, the most common platforms, like WhatsApp, Gmail and Facebook, do offer a fine suite of cover screen functionality through notifications.
Folding Camera
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 features a dual camera main imaging setup.The 50MP main camera delivers sharp, well-balanced photos in daylight with natural colours and accurate exposure. ‘Optical-level’ zoom, which operates up to 2x, is excellent for portraits and close-ups, although image fidelity diminishes slightly compared to 1x shots. The device also allows a digital zoom up to 10x, this becomes a little noisy at higher zoom levels.
The 12MP ultrawide lens provides a wide field of view with decent colour consistency, but it is a noticeable step down from the main lens. The 10MP selfie camera is adequate for video calls and everyday selfies, though the Flip7’s foldable design encourages users to rely on the superior rear cameras for self-portraits. The 4.1-inch Flex Window enables full control over camera modes and framing while using the superior rear cameras. Part of the charm is that the device is a practical tool for high-quality selfies.

Photography benefits from smarter scene recognition and suggestion algorithms, which produce pleasing results far more often than not, though seasoned photographers may find them a bit heavy handed. However, there is a comprehensive suite of ‘Pro’ mode options for those who want a bit more control. 4K video recording at 60fps with HDR10+ from both front and rear cameras is an excellent propostition for mobile videography. Better still, the sensors deliver vivid footage with effective stabilisation.
Samsung’s Galaxy AI also contributes scene optimisation, portrait effects and useful post-editing tools, which add a lot with minimal user effort. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7’s camera is dependable and enhanced by clever hardware integration. The imaging packed is geared more towards users who prioritise social media and spontaneous photography over powerful, professional gear.
