Nacon REVOLUTION X Unlimited review – All-In Control

Nacon has been making waves in the controller market over the past few years. Starting out as a relative unknown that dared to challenge the big names, it quickly rose through the ranks to go toe-to-toe with SCUF and Razer. Its latest controller, the Nacon REVOLUTION X Unlimited, has a clear target this time: Microsoft’s Elite Series 2. Nacon has delivered high quality before, often adding sensible features, so this could be a real fight.

First thing to note is the price: the REVOLUTION X Unlimited comes in at £179/€199.90, a bit more than Microsoft’s £159.99/€189 offering. Still, that extra £19/€10 nets you a few added bonuses.

It ships in a hard-shell carry case housing the controller, a 3-metre braided USB-C cable, USB dongle, charging stand, accessory box, and a small cloth for good measure.

All-Inclusive Package

Everything you need is included, which is a huge plus. However, the case is bulkier than those of the Razer Wolverine or PowerA Fusion, which could be a factor if you’re taking it on the go.

Xbox PC joypads flagship upmarket expensive

The accessories box is a treasure trove of customisation: different thumbsticks, an alternate D-pad, and two sets of weights, a signature of Nacon’s high-end range, for perfect in-hand balance.

There are three weight options for the rear grips: 10g, 14g, or 16g, shaped like tiny dumbbells and fitted by sliding off a panel. The second set goes into the joysticks, adding resistance (balanced out in-game by software trickery).

Charging Up

The charging stand is sturdy and cleverly hides a slot for the dongle, allowing you to stay charged and connected. Swapping D-pads is seamless too, and they’re delightfully clicky.

D-Pad best for fighting games

As for the controller itself, it’s a beast, packed with everything you’d expect from a premium model—rear triggers, trigger stops, and two small buttons on the back for claw-style players.

It also offers gyro controls for PC, though I only tested it on Xbox Series X, so can’t comment on that feature.

Premium Fit, Finish and Features

Nacon premium controller for Xbox PC accessories

Everything is extremely well-finished and feels great in-hand, with a real premium overall vibe. But the REVOLUTION X has another, more unique feature that makes it stand out from the crowd just a bit – a display screen.

This screen isn’t a gimmick—it constantly feeds info and shows active modes. It’s similar to Turtle Beach’s Stealth Ultra controller, and you can easily spend hours tweaking settings.

Xbox third-party official controllers

You can map functions for Xbox or PC, adjust dead zones, invert sticks, and assign actions to extra triggers.

On the audio side, it acts as a hub. You can connect devices to it, then plug in a headset to hear everything through one source. You can even balance the audio mix directly via the controller.

Like I said, it’s a MONSTER. So much so that 90% of players will never use or even know about half of the mind-blowing customization options it has. These get even deeper when you download the supporting app, which lets you do lots more things including, most importantly, change the colour of the LED light ring around the right stick. It lets you make up to 20 different profiles across advanced and classic modes.

In-Game Performance

But is it good for gaming? Absolutely. I tested it with Doom: Dark Ages, Rainbow Six Siege X, Forza Horizon 5, Tekken 8 and Date Everything!, and it never faltered. My only gripe is wireless battery life, which is fine but not great. I mostly used it wired anyway, so that wasn’t a big issue.

Nacon isn’t holding back with the REVOLUTION X Unlimited. It’s a stunning piece of kit that combines deep customisation with premium craftsmanship. At £179/€199.90, it ought to—but even at that price, Nacon has created a true Elite killer.
