It seems that Sony has accidentally revealed a new benefit for PS Plus subscribers after their Polish website announced PS Plus Video Pass.
According to VGC, Sony could be set to include their TV offering with their monthly gaming subscription after an image was posted (which has since been removed) as well as the description below:
“A new benefit available for a limited time on PlayStation Plus… PS Plus Video Pass is a trial service active 22.04.21 – 22.04.22. The subscription benefit is available to PS Plus users in Poland.”
There also seems the be a big push from the Japanese company to turn some of their biggest IPs into TV shows and feature films. So far there’s an Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland, along with an HBO series of The Last of Us starring Pedro Pascal, and a Ghost of Tsushima film.
How well stacked the shelves of Video Plus will be remains to be seen but Sony’s entertainment tentacles have a long reach. Their Sony Pictures Entertainment wing has the rights to many of the biggest films of the last few decades. Whether they will tap that revenue stream to offer extra value remains to be seen.
This move would make sense considering Sony’s move last month to cease all content from their digital store, later this year. With Xbox Gamepass getting better and better seemingly by the day, everyone has been eagerly awaiting a reaction from Sony. Whether people thought it would include TV and film is another question entirely.
Value Propostion
Sony has already attempted to bolster PS Plus’ value for PS5 owners in the form of PS Plus Collection. That includes 20 of the biggest selling games of the eighth generation including PlayStation exclusives like Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Remastered.
Are Sony right in expanding their PS Plus benefits to include other forms of entertainment?? Do you feel like Video Plus is a worthwhile sweetener for the service?? If you aren’t already subscribed to PS Plus, does this make you reconsider?? Let us know in the comments below…
