A new patch released by PlayStation has all but gotten rid of Load times in PS4 games such as The Last of Us Remastered and Until Dawn.
With load times set to be all but obliterated by the PS5, it seems that Sony is prepping PS4 titles to take advantage of the extra horsepower. Originally spotted by VGC, They noticed that the opening load screen was reduced from over 1-minute pre-patch to just 14 seconds.
The patch has seen Until Dawn’s load screens all but removed on PS4 which gives a new level of immersion to the horror classic. Perfect timing with Halloween coming up.
Perhaps these new patches for PS4 games are only for those select titles included in the new PS Plus Collection. Both The Last of Us and Until Dawn are in the PS Plus Collection along with other classics like RE7, God of War and Bloodborne. Could we see patches for those titles too? I hope so.
These new patches are allegedly due to PS5 using a new type of compression system that’s has been leveraged to take advantage of the PS5 power when playing last-gen games.
Don’t forget that The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 amongst others will be getting free patches to upgrade from PS4 to PS5. To see the full list, check out our list of every confirmed free PS4 to PS5 upgrade so far.
With PS5 just 2 weeks away (3 in Europe), it looks like outlets are now starting to get their review units for the console. Judging by the early pics, the retail box looks to be an absolute monster. Interestingly, it doesn’t seem that Sony sent out any Digital editions to outlets. Something tells me those digital editions will be virtually impossible to secure this Christmas and beyond.
