Google Ireland is celebrating Earth Month with ‘4D’ Timelapse Maps allowing users to take a trip back to the past as well as any part of the globe. The Earth’s 3D globe maps have added time to the equation with users invited to see 38 years of change across the world.

Google Ireland has also revealed Ireland’s most searched climate and environmental topics with the country. The future of sustainable energy is clearly a hot topic with ‘solar energy’, ‘wind power’ and ‘wind turbine all taking a spot in the top ten Top Trending list.
4D Timelapse Maps
Google has added 2021-2022 to Timelapse in Google Earth to mark Earth Month which lasts for the month of April. Google’s timely addition of the latest data now allows users to witness change across the globe from 1984 to 2022.
Timelapse lets users watch time unfold on a 4D interative map stitching together from millions of satellite photos.
Timelapse in Google Earth is a global, zoomable time-lapse video of the planet, providing evidence of earth’s dynamic changes. Google cites human changes like irrigation systems emerging in the deserts of Egypt. And natural phenomena like meandering rivers shifting over time in the Amazon rainforest in Pucallpa, Peru or volcanic eruptions, logging and wildfires changing the landscape of California’s Lassen National Forest.

The imagery also captures ways cities have adapted to combat climate change — like offshore wind farms in Middelgrunden, Denmark and a large-scale solar installation in Granada, Spain.
An Irish Issue
Anthropogenic climate change is clearly a concern to the average Irish person as Google Ireland’s list of the top ten climate-related searches.
