Players are spoilt for choice when it comes to gaming headsets. The sweet spot for many gamers is finding the best quality and features for their budget, Gioteck headsets go for ‘value’ jugular with Gioteck TX40 being no exception.
Value in Variety
Featuring an in-line mic instead of a traditional headset vocal input, the TX-40 makes for a versatile headset that can be used practically for a range of electronics without looking out of place.
Post-lockdown, a standard gaming commuters day will include listening to their favourite music, podcasts and audiobooks followed by a session or twelve of gaming via consoles, computers or handhelds.
The TX40 provides detailed sound via its 40mm high impact drivers that go above and beyond its RRP compared to other offerings in its field. Whilst it’s mids and treble sound safely within the realms of their respective responsibilities, Gioteck TX40 does lack the backup of some powerful lows found in competitor headsets.
Build Quality
The build quality is good. The Alcantara cushioning on the ears and the band easily are comfortable enough extended playtimes. The feel of the headset is robust but lightweight, this is enforced by having copper-coloured slide-rails exposed on the headband. that feel strong enough to withstand the wear and tear of a multi-functional headset.
The copper colouring on the earpieces really frame the headset well for an attractive product for its sub €25/£20 price tag. The mic itself is surprisingly well built and provides a great level of clarity for inline use. When testing the headset out with my Huawei P30 Pro, I was able to record voice notes and singing clips with ease.
Whilst the TX40 mic is by no means of recording or streaming quality, it’s adequate for all the banter over a game of Minecraft Dungeons over Xbox live or joining family and friends on a traditional lockdown chat on Zoom for example.
Undercover
The visual profile of TX40 is discreet enough to get away with wearing in public places. We all know that one person who insists on using THAT pair of Turtle Beaches on public transport. For users that still stick to wired redheads and headphones because they are hopeless at remembering to charge their devices, Gioteck TX40 is a brilliant choice.
There were no issues with setting up Gioteck TX40 during the review process and they get on great with every device we tested them with which include the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One S controller, iPad, Huawei P30 Pro and iMac. No feedback or interference was picked up whilst trying out the headset on all of these devices either.
A Fine Balance
Gioteck has manufactured a brilliant, no-frills headset for under £20 that ticks all the boxes for on the go and budget gamers. It would have been nice to push a bit more bass out of those lovely copper-coloured cones, but the overwhelmingly positive points destroy the one niggle I had about the TX-40.
If players have a big budget and a sharp ear for audio fidelity, this isn’t the headset for you. The rounded sound across a variety of platforms at a competitive price point makes Gioteck TX40 a strong choice.
