Let’s Sing Queen review – I Can’t Sing in Key

After getting over that majestic pun, Karaoke singers worldwide will appreciate what Queen has done for their own humiliation. We’ve all heard that one person try and sing Bohemian Rhapsody before now, with an emphasis on try. Now you can experience the sheer horror of friends and family butchering your favourite tracks with Let’s Sing Queen.

Let’s Sing Queen… Now!

For those who haven’t guessed, Let’s Sing is a Karaoke series which measures a players tone and pitch when singing songs to award points. This is delivered through various game modes to squeeze the replay-ability out of what is essentially a party game.

Classic mode is a straight forward choice of song with a score result at the end. Harmony mode is for some duet action, whereas mixtape mode is a mini-marathon of Sing along Queen hits. Party mode sees two teams face off against each other whilst World Conquest allows players to take on a leader board of sorts. Once all songs have been sung once, they get thrown into Jukebox mode for players to simply listen too.

A Licence To… Sing Queen

Often with licensed games, some major tracks are missing due to copyright issues and other unknown bumps in the road. Let’s Sing Queen is a full-fat experience complete with all original music videos. There are no alterations (as far as we could tell) to the songs either, so no silly down tunes for more accessibility.

In fact, Let’s Sing Queen is probably one of the most challenging singing games in terms of pitch. It’s not easy stepping into Freddie’s shoes, and some of us may kind issues with matching those highs. It is worth noting however that due to the basic nature of the software baked in, players can get away with using lower tones providing it’s still in key.

Use Your Smartphone, My Friend

It’s quite easy to understand what’s going on during a song too. Much like the highly successful Singstar series on PS2 and PS3, players will see words under a coloured step which represents pitch and tone. It’s up to players to use their voice to raise or lower the cursor to strike through said steps for a bag full of points to boast about.

The one gripe that I have with Let’s Sing Queen is it’s dedicated app. The app turns your mobile phone into a Microphone for the game, once it manages to link up to a game via the four-digit pin it’s happy days. However, the amount of time I spent resetting the app to sync up correctly was a bit silly. We’d highly recommend setting up the app before drinking and playing, it’s just not worth it.

The Show Must Go On…

This is a straight forward purchase, if you’re not that into Queen, or singing for that matter, give this one a hard pass. But, if lockdown and UK Coronavirus guidance has pulled you away from your Saturday night sing-alongs down the local, and Freddie Mercury is your spirit animal, go for it.
