Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi has launched its ‘Bridging the Digital Divide in Education, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. Xiaomi, in collaboration with European Schoolnet, is now supporting a network of 33 Ministries of Education. The smartphone and smart device expert will leverage their technology to support underserved educational centres across Europe.
Bridging the Digital Divide
As digital literacy becomes increasingly essential for success in today’s fast-evolving world, young people continue to face barriers. Due to insufficient access to digital tools and skills, many find their educational and employment opportunities hindered. And, in turn, can pose challenges in both personal and professional life. According to the EC’s State of the Digital Decade 2023, over 90% of European jobs require digital knowledge alongside general literacy and numeracy.

However, approximately 32% of Europeans still lack basic digital skills. Xiaomi says their “Bridging the Digital Divide in Education” initiative will address these goals. The company is now making their advanced technology and digital education available to underserved European youth.
Where Xiaomi Come In
Xiaomi will contribute its expertise in smart hardware and IoT technology by joining the Scientix STEM Alliance. The Scientix STEM Alliance is a Europe-wide initiative focused on strengthening STEM education and applying its resources and knowledge to support STEM education initiatives.

The company will support the STEM Discovery Campaign in identifying schools, clubs, and educational centres with limited access to technology. Selected organisations will receive Xiaomi devices paired with training programs. There will also be customised curricula to integrate technology into classrooms, fostering more interactive and engaging learning experiences.
