If you have played Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout on PC or PlayStation 4 since its release in August 2020, you will have no doubt come across a ‘grabber’. These players use the in-built grabbing mechanic to latch onto their opponents, whether for good or evil, and have mastered the art of pulling, pushing, and manipulating them into moving in the way that they want.
As an oft-frenetic physics-based battle royale, Fall Guys sees a lot of players devolving into devious grabbing tactics. In order to outwit their opponents across the various obstacle courses, grabbing has become a tool to get one step closer to those elusive crowns. For others, however, grabbing is a dirty concept; it is not to be engaged in unless necessary for an objective, or maybe for a dash of sweet, sweet revenge. (That’s me, by the way.)
Here are the ten types of grabber you can expect to encounter while playing Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout. It might even help you to identify the kind of grabber you are, if you are guilty of this sort of thing…
The Saviour
The Saviour tries to grab other players for genuinely noble reasons. Whether it is to save a friend from certain doom, or to try and drag an AFK stranger to the right platform in Perfect Match, this kind of grabber is only interested in helping others and not grabbing for their own gain.
If you are this type of player, know that you are very much appreciated, and your efforts are respected by those you have helped.
The Martyr
The Martyr is a similarly valiant bean, but these individuals are willing to go the extra mile and sacrifice themselves to the slime if it means that they will be taking another player with them.
They sacrifice themselves so that others may continue in their quest for crowns, with fewer players who might thwart them in their path to compete against. Make sure to give Martyrs the solemn applause that they deserve in the elimination screen.
The Hugger
Every bean gets lonely sometimes. Consequently, you’ll often come across a grabber who seems to play with their arms constantly outstretched, just hoping to connect with someone out there who might hold them close in a wholesome digital embrace.
Spread the love around and give your fellow players a hug sometimes – you never know, you may be helping that other player to earn the ‘Fall Bae’ trophy/achievement!
The Accident-Prone
Accident-Prone grabbers are those who never actually intend to grab anyone, but do an excellent job of it anyway. Perhaps they are partial to pushing the triggers by accident, or else grab another player when trying to grab something else, like a ledge, penguin, or egg.
I have been a victim to this kind of grabber many times when trying to pull myself up a ledge, only to have another bean cling to my legs and drag us both down again. I have also been this kind of bean, grabbing my own teammates instead of eggs in Egg Scramble. Please consider this my formal apology, everyone.
The Defender
The Defender grabs only in defence of objects or other players – never for personal gain. You will encounter this kind of grabber mostly in team games, where it is necessary to defend egg baskets, balls, those running with penguins, or else to advance the team’s progress.
In Rock ‘N’ Roll in particular, it becomes a peculiar game of tug-of-war to whip those pesky enemy beans out from in front of your ball and roll it to victory. Do not underestimate the quality of their defence.
The Apprentice
An Apprentice grabber is often a satisfying sight to behold. As they attempt to learn the grabbing ropes, and do their best to latch onto unsuspecting opponents, they often get themselves yeeted into the slime instead, much to their dismay.
Mastering the movement physics of Fall Guys is difficult enough on its own, never mind learning to control the trajectory and direction of other beans as well, so while it is fun to laugh at these failures and call them karma, there is also a small amount of respect we must hold for these budding grabbers who are just trying to hone their craft. And I mean very small, as grabbing to sabotage others is not respectable in the slightest.
The Revenge Artist
Many Fall Guys players – including myself – are pacifists who never usually seek to grab others. However, a lot can change after being grabbed by someone else, or else witnessing a friend get grabbed and dunked in the slime.
After a near-death experience, a Revenge Artist may emerge, determined to deal justice to the grabber who wronged them. If you grab me – as much as I detest grabbing – you can almost guarantee that I will make it my personal mission to hunt you down and push you into the slime myself to teach you a lesson.
The Tactician
The Tactician will get a cheeky grab in here and there if an opportunity arises that may work in their favour. You might see one dropping another bean into a gap that they are about to cross or using vanishing the floor beneath them in Hex-A-Gone or Thin Ice to open the playing field a bit more.
The most common sightings of the Tactician though are in Tiptoe and Jump Showdown, where they sacrifice other players to find the right paths to the finish or whittle down the remaining opponents respectively. Always watch your back with these devious beans around.
The Griefer
Griefers grab with the express intention to cause chaos, with many not even grabbing with winning in mind. These players grab indiscriminately, repeatedly, and without a care in the world as to whether they might have made a child cry on the other end of the screen.
These grabbers take pleasure in the pain of other beans and will not pass up an opportunity to screw someone else over if one should present itself. You might even see them do a cheeky victory emote afterwards if they are fast enough. These are the worst grabbers of them all.
The Murderer
Finally, we have the murderous beans, whose collective motto seems to be “every bean must die.” They toss other beans into the slime with as much care as tossing rubbish into a bin, allowing none to stand in their way. The only consolation about these grabbers is that they do so to win, rather than for no reason at all.
If they think of you as a threat, the chances are you will be their next target and will take you out quickly to advance their own chances at winning. If you spot any serial grabbers, it is a kill-or-be-killed situation from that point on, unless you can dodge them effectively. All I can say is, good luck, my friend.
That was my list of the ten types of Fall Guys grabbers. If you identify as one of these types, or if you can think of one I haven’t mentioned, do not hesitate to let me know in the comments below or by tweeting to me over at @anxietycrossing. While I’m waiting, I’ll be off trying to earn some more crowns.
