Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you’ll probably have heard about Donald Trump’s increasingly-quixotic battle against Huawei. The U.S President placed Huawei and its subsidiaries on a list that made it illegal for US companies to export products to including software.
So, no Google Play Store on the likes of the excellent Huawei P40 Pro and the Mate 30, but they have launched their own app store to try and fill the gap.
But, now it seems that they may have found a delicious loophole which will no doubt benefit fans of Huawei phones.
A listing on Huawei’s consumer page in Germany seems to have leaked the Huawei P30 Pro New Edition.
But Why a ‘New Edition’?
Under the embargo, Huawei’s newly-designed models such as the P40 Pro, the company cannot get GMS certification but that doesn’t include revamped older models like the P30 Pro which already have certification.
They’ve previously launched the Huawei P30 Lite New Edition which was nigh-on identical to the P30 Lite, but with Google services.
So as long as Huawei doesn’t update the SoC for the OG P30 Pro, they can add as much ram, storage and maybe even a new look to Huawei P30 New Edition without losing access to Google services. While Huawei have received some praise for their efforts in bringing most of the apps people want to a relatively new platform, offering a new-ish device with zero caveats still seems like a good idea.
Check and mate it seems.
