HMD Global Nokia has announced their latest smartphone, Nokia G42. The device’s flagship colour is a ‘So Purple’ inspired by the 2023 Colour of the Year – Digital Lavender. Under the hood the QuickFix repairability allows users to make common repairs themselves.

A Greener Shade of Purple
Nokia G42 QuickFix kits allows user to repair a cracked screen, bent charging ports or old batteries, all by yourself. Thanks to a collaboration with iFixit, the device can be repaired with handy step-by-step repair guides. Replacement parts start at €19.95.
Nokia G42 features a back cover that is 65% recycled material. The unit also coms boxed in FSC-certified mixed packaging.
5G Speed
Nokia G42 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ 5G Mobile Platform that should handle everyday tasks at a canter. The device storage is a healthy 128GB and you can top that up with MicroSD card of up to 1TB.
There are two models, one with 4GB or RAM, the other with 6GB. This should be enough to hop between apps with minimal delay.
Big Sensor
Nokia G42 features a 50MP main camera. The smartphone uses imaging AI to adjust your shot to match your conditions. The device also features a Portrait Mode that blurs the background while keeping the focus on the subject. The phone also uses AI to power its Night Mode.
The device is equipped with OZO 3D audio capture so you can create an immersive soundscape with your video capture.

Nokia G42 features a gigantic 5,000mAh battery inside its 6.56″ diagonal frame. This gives the device a 3-day runtime according to HMD Nokia.
They also say the battery is good for 800 charging cycles and will keep 80% of its battery over that span. That’s around four years.
The device also stays up to date with two years of OS upgrades. And it comes with up to 3 years of monthly security updates to keep you protected in the long run.
Nokia G42 Price and Availability
Nokia G42 in So Purple and So Grey is available in 6/128GB storage and memory configurations from €249 today in Ireland. The will also be available in 4/128GB storage and memory configurations via Vodafone and Eir for €199.
You can wrap your device in a first-party case made from 100% recycled materials. The case comes in a fully recyclable packaging and is available for €24.99.
