It has been just over a year since NACON impressed with their MG-X Pro mobile android gaming controller. Their Pro offering being a beefed-up build of their standard MG-X mobile android gaming controller. And this upgrade was built with exactly one goal, to boost your mobile gaming, especially on the Xbox Cloud gaming front.
But seemingly the company felt the device needed a little freshen-up and a new coat of paint. And so, NACON MG-X Pro has been given the treatment and is now available with a rather dashing urban camo finish.
Urban Design
As paint jobs go, it’s not as in your face as some I have seen. But the urban camo finish does give it some edge on the visual front. Thanks to the Soft Touch finish, it’s comfortable in the hand and very tactile.
The camo finish is only on the front side of the unit. The rear of the unit has a textured finish which means the unit is going nowhere even when the action is kicking off.

Under the new tactile finish the device is very much still the outstanding MG-X Pro handset. In the best possible way, MG-X Pro feels like the team at Nacon grabbed an official Xbox controller and split it in two.
So if you are an Xbox owner you’ll feel right at home as all the buttons have a similar finish and feel – increasing the Xbox One controller vibe. But it is also worth noting that the Pro is a chunky bit of kit when in hand especially when fully extended. Also, worth noting this is an Android unit we are testing, though you can get the MG-X Pro and MG-X for Apple devices too.
Urban Gaming Life
There is also a USB-C port for charging, which also comes with a charging cable. You’ll get around 20 hours of gameplay from a full charge, so it’ll outlive your phone before needing a power boost.
Putting your phone in the controller is extremely easy. It is spring-loaded and will instantly stretch out for a good distance with a maximum reach of a 6.7in screen. We tested it with a Razer phone with and without a case and there was no issue in getting it to fit.

Connecting the unit to your phone is also simple. You just use the Bluetooth connection and sync it. That’s it – you are good to go. It’s worth pointing out that the device only works with devices running Android 6.0 or a later version.
The device can also be used to control your phone beyond gameplay and Xbox Cloud titles. That means you can play plenty of mobile titles and other streaming services like a pro.
Couch Test
I tested the unit both on the couch at home and out and about, finding it was extremely smooth when playing a selection of Xbox Cloud titles like Forza Horizon 5, Rainbow Six Siege and Sea of Thieves.
The controls were impressive across the board. Nacon MG-X PRO Urban Camo ran with little noticeable latency through the Bluetooth connection.
A Case to Be Made
My biggest issue – an issue I have had across the MG-X family to be fair – is that it doesn’t come with a carry case. Given the price of the unit, this missing courtesy is a real surprise. You can find third party cases that will house it on the likes of Amazon if you look around.
Nacon MG-X PRO Urban Camo is a solid piece of kit for Android users that has a grittier look to it than its standard brother. If you’re looking for something a bit cooler than the standard black finish, the Urban Camo unit is absolutely worth a look.
