On Friday, TechStomper was fortunate enough to be invited to view a Huawei presentation on the camera tech inside the P40 series and where phone camera technology is heading.
This was of particular interest to TechStomper given our P40 Pro review, we labelled the P40 Pro the best phone camera ever made. With Samsung Galaxy S20 Series barely cracking the ‘top 10’ on DxOMARK’s photography test, Huawei were keen to remind us of their stills supremacy.
The talk was headed up by Pan Chaoyue, the senior product marketing manager for camera solution product development. Their highest of high-range phones, the P40 Pro Plus and how the tech in that phone is leading the way.
The sensor inside the P40 Pro Plus is the world’s first multi-reflection super periscope sensor in a phone.
Just some of the boosts in camera performance include 5 times light reflection as well as 100x Max zoom.
There’s also been a massive upgrade to the to the ultra vision sensor that takes in nearly 50% more light than its predecessor.
Hard Decisions
“There is no perfect solution. there are always trade-offs. In the industry we have several paths…for Huawei, we care so much about image quality,” Chaoyue said when he was comparing it to other phone manufacturers who target high megapixel numbers.
Of course it’s not just high megapixel count that makes great pictures, you also need a big sensor to take advantage of it.
“Since the P20, we started to insist that we use the bigger sensor size, the bigger pixel size,” Chaoyue said.
The camera sensor size has increased dramatically compared to the P30 series, increasing from 1/1.7 inch to 1/1.28 inch.
Speaking of Huawei Camera tech, they’ve recently announced the NEXT IMAGE competition where you can win up to €10,000 or the latest Huawei flagship, P40 Pro.
We’ve also done a nifty guide to help you get the most out of Huawei Mobile Services and to get your favourite apps on your Huawei phone.
But, if you do want Google services on your Huawei device, then it seems you may be in luck – the tinterwebs is flush with rumours of a new edition of the P30 Pro.
