Nintendo Switch has replaced PlayStation Vita as the home for all things Indie. Mostly thanks to a slew launch window for Switch that forced some notable Indie titles from the Nintendo eShop onto unsuspecting Ninty enthusiasts.
That was around the time I first got into reviewing and gaming journalism. The eShop isn’t the best for curating shovel-ware and endless rogue-likes that play the same as the last, but it’s a gold mine.
Here are some of the eShop sale highlights I found as of 21/01/2020, complete with sale price, regular price and sale expiry date:
Death Road to Canada

Expiry Date: 22/01/2021
Featuring a procedurally generated cast, scenario and enemies, Death Road to Canada is a full title to pick up when taking a break from other taxing titles. It’s mindless fun, and that’s ok.
Valfaris & Slain Double Pack
Sale Price: £12.59
Standard Price: £35.99
Expiry Date: 31/01/2021
Slain and it’s spiritual successor Valfaris are possibly the finest examples of Metroidvania on Nintendo Switch. Featuring epic soundtracks, beautiful yet bloody pixel art and an eye for accuracy, Valfaris and Slain are wise Nintendo eShop investments.
Bleed

Bleed is a bullet hell twin-stick affair that flirts with the 4th wall throughout. Staged like an 80’s cop-show with a comic book presentation, Bleeds take on Heroes/Anti-heroes mixes perfectly with its gameplay.

Rive: Ultimate Edition

Metal Slug enthusiasts will thrive with Rive. Featuring anxiety triggering bullet-hell sequences mixed with a spot of platforming, Rive: Ultimate Edition is a no-brainer for the sale price tag.
Spiral Splatter

Expiry Date: 10/02/2021
Oddly calming yet infuriating at the same time, Spiral Splatter is a modern take on the electric wire game. It’s simple, avoid obstacles and don’t touch anything. It’s worth its price tag for a change of pace now and again.
Figment

Figment is a stand-out action-adventure title that takes place in a dream being over-run by nightmares. It’s art direction, and mechanics make for a fun experience that should be tried by any fans of the genre.
Slime-San

Expiry Date: 16/02/2021
Slime-San is a fast-paced platformer with a sticky gimmick. Players must jump from wall to wall to avoid the usual platformer enemies and obstacles to complete a level. Whilst it’s design and presentation looks simple, don’t underestimate the challenge that awaits.
